Carol’s Volunteer Story!

“I became involved with RMH at Boston Harbor during my senior year at Boston University. At the time, I was a brand ambassador for Love Your Melon, which is an apparel brand that donates 50% of their proceeds to pediatric cancer research. With fellow ambassadors, we volunteered our time to make meals for families for Meals with Love. I loved the experience of meeting families and providing them with some small comfort during a difficult time for them as their children received medical treatment in Boston. I decided to look into volunteer positions at RMH Boston Harbor after graduation, since I accepted a research position at Mass General. Ever since, I have been the Volunteer Night Relief Manager on Tuesday nights! Now, the roles have reversed and I am the one overseeing the groups that volunteer their time to Meals with Love. I love being here every Tuesday night because it gives me the opportunity to build stronger bonds with families during their stay. I particularly love when Family Activity Night and Meals with Love overlap on Tuesdays because I love playing, making crafts, decorating cookies, and eating yummy food with the kids and their families! It is an amazing break from working in research and I’m grateful for the relationships I’ve fostered with the families and the irreplaceable staff on Tuesday nights!”
